Yttrium

Z = 39 · Transition Metal · 88.9 u

Nuclear Engineering Significance

Daughter product of Sr-90 (Y-90, t₁/₂ = 64 h). Yttrium oxide (Y₂O₃) is used as a dispersoid in oxide-dispersion-strengthened (ODS) steels being developed for advanced reactor and fusion applications. Not otherwise common in reactor cores.
