Sb

Antimony

Z = 51 · Metalloid · 121.8 u

Nuclear Engineering Significance

Activation product Sb-124 (t₁/₂ = 60.2 d) is produced from antimony impurities in structural materials. Sb-Be photoneutron sources use the Sb-124 gamma to produce neutrons via ⁹Be(γ,n). Not intentionally used in reactor cores.
