Rh

Rhodium

Z = 45 · Transition Metal · 102.9 u

Nuclear Engineering Significance

Fission product with relatively high thermal absorption (σ_a = 145 b for Rh-103). Used in self-powered neutron detectors (SPNDs) for in-core flux monitoring due to its neutron-induced beta emission. Acts as a neutron poison as it accumulates in operating fuel.
