Nd

Neodymium

Z = 60 · Lanthanide · 144.2 u

Nuclear Engineering Significance

Important fission product for burnup determination. Nd-148 has a well-known fission yield and is the standard isotope used for destructive burnup analysis (Nd-148 method). Nd-143 (σ_a = 325 b) acts as a neutron poison. Several Nd isotopes serve as stable fission product shielding in burnup credit criticality safety analyses.
