Kr

Krypton

Z = 36 · Noble Gas · 83.8 u

Nuclear Engineering Significance

Noble gas fission product. Kr-85 (t₁/₂ = 10.76 y) accumulates in spent fuel and is released during reprocessing. Krypton does not plate out on surfaces so it collects in the fuel rod plenum, contributing to internal fuel pin pressure.
