Fluorine

Z = 9 · Halogen · 19.0 u

Nuclear Engineering Significance

Key component of molten salt fuels and coolants (FLiBe, FLiNaK). Very low thermal absorption (σ_a = 0.0096 b) makes it neutronically favorable. Fluorine chemistry is central to UF₆ used in uranium enrichment.
