Dy

Dysprosium

Z = 66 · Lanthanide · 162.5 u

Nuclear Engineering Significance

Strong thermal neutron absorber (σ_a = 994 b for natural Dy). Used in control rod and absorber applications, particularly in some CANDU reactor designs. Dysprosium titanate (Dy₂TiO₅) has been used as a flux suppressor material.
