Ce

Cerium

Z = 58 · Lanthanide · 140.1 u

Nuclear Engineering Significance

Fission product with high yield. Ce-144 (t₁/₂ = 284.9 d) is a significant contributor to spent fuel activity in the first few years. CeO₂ is used as a surrogate for PuO₂ in fuel fabrication research due to similar crystal structure and properties.
